THE TALLIS CHRISTMAS MASS
Nov 21 (Thu) 2024 | 8pm | St. John’s Cathedral, HK
Nov 23 (Sat) 2024 | 4pm | St. Joseph’s Seminary, Macau
Experience a celestial celebration of Tallis Vocalis’ 10th anniversary season with Thomas Tallis’ “Missa Puer natus est nobis”, a seven-part masterpiece of Renaissance polyphony. This work, based on a Christmas chant, showcases Tallis’ intricate counterpoint and lush harmonies, creating a rich and meditative soundscape.
The programme also includes Marian motets by both contemporary and Renaissance composers: Robert Parsons’ Ave Maria, James MacMillan’s Ave maris stella, and Vanissa Law’s Alma redemptoris mater, a special commission written for the group’s 10th anniversary. These pieces, celebrating the Virgin Mary, harmoniously complement Tallis’ Christmas-themed work, creating a profound and spiritually uplifting experience.
